The Similan Islands get their name from the Malaysian word ‘sembilan’ – meaning nine. The islands from North to South include: Koh Ba Ngu, Similan, Payu, Miang, Payan, Payang and Hu Yong. Dive sites around these islands include: Christmas Point – Koh Ba Ngu; Fantasy Reef – Koh Similan; Elephant Head – Koh Similan; Shark Ridge Rocks – Koh Payan.
There’s a huge variety of sights to see under the waves; from coral reefs, gardens and walls to barrel sponges. For the more experienced diver, there are caves and swim-throughs in the area. The pinnacle rocks at Koh Payan are home to numerous species of fish, such as the Leopard Shark, Silvertip and the White Tip Reef Shark.
