Koh Samui, situated off the East coast in Southern Thailand, is the largest island of the archipelago - which consists of more than 80 islands. The majority of the islands are located within Angthong Marine Park, most are uninhabited.
Of a surface area of about 250 square kilometres, Samui is the third largest island in Thailand after Phuket and Koh Chang. The closest major city is Suratthani, lying roughly 60 kilometres to the west.
The majority of diving in this area is around the island of Koh Tao which offers beautiful fringing coral reefs and the spectacular Nangyuan Island that has 3 adjoining beaches as well as several small islands. Other popular dive sites include Sail Rock (north of Phangan), Southwest Pinnacle, Koh Yippon, Koh Ma and several excellent sites in the Marine National Park.
All the dive sites are accessible from Koh Samui, Phangan or Koh Tao. Check the listed diving operators for dive trip information.
